The Salt Lake County Youth Hockey League program is divided into four age divisions.  The age and birth date requirements are set by USA Hockey, the governing body for amateur hockey in the United States.  These age divisions are outlined and described below:

Mites, Ages 6-8 (players born in 1998-1999-2000)

All mites will play cross-ice for the first 10 games of the season, in accordance with the USA Hockey cross-ice skill development program.  The remaining games of the season, approximately 7, will be played on the full length of the ice.  Scores will not be displayed during games. All players will receive equal playing time with a mandatory line change every two minutes.  A buzzer will sound, play will stop, lines will change, and there will be a face-off at the nearest face-off spot to the puck's location at the time of the buzzer.  On-ice officials will be in place and all rule infractions and penalties will be called.  In this division a strong effort is made to explain each call to the player when a rule infraction is committed.  The  USA Hockey coaches' certification required for this division is Level 1.

Squirts, Ages 9-10 (players born in 1996-1997)

All games will be played on the full length of the ice. Scores will be displayed and statistics will be kept for each game.  Consistent with the philosophy of the program efforts are made to give all players equal playing time.  No horn will blow to initiate line changes.  Line changes may take place during stoppages of play or "on the fly".  No body-checking will be allowed in this division.  On-ice officials will be in place and all rule infractions and penalties will be called.  The USA Hockey coaches' certification required for this division is Level 2.

Pee wees, Ages 11-12 (players born in 1994-1995)

All games will be played on the full length of the ice. Scores will be displayed and statistics will be kept for each game.  Consistent with the philosophy of the program efforts are made to give all players equal playing time.  No horn will blow to initiate line changes.  Line changes may take place during stoppages of play or "on the fly".  Body-checking will be introduced in this division.  On-ice officials will be in place and all rule infractions and penalties will be called.  The USA Hockey coaches' certification required for this division is Level 3.

Bantams, Ages 13-14 (players born in 1992-1993)

All games will be played on the full length of the ice. Scores will be displayed and statistics will be kept for each game.  Consistent with the philosophy of the program efforts are made to give all players equal playing time.  No horn will blow to initiate line changes.  Line changes may take place during stoppages of play or "on the fly".  Body-checking will be permitted in this  division.  On-ice officials will be in place and all rule infractions and penalties will be called.  The USA Hockey coaches' certification required for this division is Level 3.
